Bloomberg is not done yet, and we know he didn't the UFT blocking the turnarounds for now. He will most likely find a way to escalate closing schools in September!

Video Description: n This Video: A video of which displays SAU's protests throughout the year. More is to come!!! We are Student Activists United (SAU) that consists of students in NYC that are working collectively to create change in the education system. Through the use of action and media, we raise awareness of Bloomberg's failed policies and the effect of these policies on NYC students. Our current demand is that we be heard and ideas for new policies come from the community. We want schools to be fixed with authentic community input.

NYC Press Conference And City Hall Park Takeover

Student Activists United held a press conference and rallied against the turnaround policy.
The turnaround policy is an attempt by All levels of the government to change the state of schools. Many feel there is something deeper going on, firing half the staff of a school and replacing them doesn't seem it will benefit the students in the least.

February 9TH PEP Vote

 February 9th's PEP Video Recap

We didn't change the vote but we still won

The vote was not in our favor but we still won. The Panel for educational Policy still voted to close over 2 dozen schools that night, but something else emerged from the negativity. Nearly two thousand angered people chanted together and mic checked together to prove a point. The point being this is not right! Even with a high police presence which seems to be common in New York City nowadays we still protested peacefully. Some say overall it was still a success, more organizations, students, parents and teachers are united than ever.

Open Letter To Teachers & Administrations From Students

Dear Teachers and Principals of New York City,

On February 1st, students across New York City will be walking out at 2 P.M to protest school closures and other failed education policies. We, the students called for this walk out because of many aspects. We pleaded for change and basically were told no by the DOE. All summed up we got tired of having to follow the DOE’s unfair policies. It is a completely student run action inspired by the neglect that we have felt by the Department of Education. While many activist groups in NYC support our actions and stand in solidarity with us, we are acting as a separate entity and trying to create a space for high school students. We will rally at Union Square and speak out about our education and the policies that affect us. We feel these policies are not helping and DOE data doesn’t display progress. Students, teachers, and administrators across New York City are affected by them and it’s time to call for a reform. This walkout is to only be heard by the Department of Education and the rest of the city. We want to stop many policies including closures of struggling schools.

We know that you are unable to walkout with us at this moment. However, please support our action on this day by not giving us extensive punishment for this infraction. According to the Student’s Bill of Rights, there is a range of possible disciplinary responses and so we hope you choose a response that will not negatively impact our education.

Please understand that we are not walking out on you. We walk out for you and we hope that one day, you will walk with us too. Thank you so much for your understanding. I would love to emphasize the fact once again that this is not against anyone besides the Department of Education policies that are failing us as a city and as a community.

*New Video* February First Rally

February 9th is a big day, much bigger than February First. The Panel for Educational Puppets will vote on this day, whether to close 25 schools (including Legacy School for Integrated Studies). We are working very hard to get our school off the list but that of course is a slim to none chance. The PEP has closed well over 117 schools a big percent of them, new schools under Bloomberg's administration.

The PEP consists of 13 members 8 of which are hand picked by the mayor himself. Just by that you can tell that corruption is present. We need support we will be having a press conference before the pep meeting at 4:30 in front of Brooklyn Tech.

Legacy Conducting Their Own Investigation

1

Legacy students are hard at work looking for new data to present to the public. The DOE has hid behind the numbers for years but we are going to use it against them. We have asked the DOE to do an investigation in legacy's past statistics and see if they are actually accurate. We do believe some things are false. We are also conducting a peer-index investigation. The DOE messed with the wrong school this time around! The Save Legacy Coalition is going to give them a run for their money.
